Out With The Old. In With The New.

When I moved into my house, I had a small shed in the back yard that attached to the house. The shed was small and falling apart so I had always planned on tearing it down and building a new one.

My original plan was to rip it down and put a new, bigger one in it's place. However, I decided against that for a few reasons... I thought a 10x10 shed would look a little goofy right next to the house, besides I wanted a patio somewhere around that as well. Also, the shed had a concrete pad under it... What I ended up doing was building a 10 foot by 10 foot storage shed in the backyard and a floating deck on top of the concrete pad left by the shed. The old shed was rotting away and needed to go. It was attached to the house but was never flashed. "Flashing", in this case would have been pieces of metal under the siding of the house that also go under the roof of the shed. The water can then safely travel on the piece of metal and not soak into the wooden parts of the roof or the siding. Like I said, this was never done, which contributed to the shed's ultimate demise.

In this video I tear down my old rotted shed and build a “floating deck” or “freestanding” deck. Floating decks are so called because, rather than being attached to a building as are standard decks, they simply "float" on top of the ground. They are also called freestanding decks, for the same reason.

Of course I had to make a full video on me tearing down the old shed.

After a few months of sitting in the sun and all of the elements that New England has to offer, I was confident that the pressure treated wood of the deck was ready to stain. So thats what I did... I made a video on that too!

Then after a while of using the deck, I actually came to the conclusion it was a bit too small for what I needed. I was taking the grill off when I had friends over and putting it back on when they left. Ultimately I decided that doing that was silly and extended the deck to include a little grill station. AND... I made a video on that!

AND in between all of this shed/deck craziness I built a new shed. AND... wouldn't you know it... I made a video.

Guy is such a huge douche bag on fb. All he does is bully & belittle others who suggest the correct saftey gear needed to avoid the previous mistakes he made in a compilation video.
